Thought I would add to this now that I have talked to both Bullit cams and Cloyes. The bearing went away, the cam walked out into the cover, aluminum through the bearings, one roller climbed the adjacent ramp, valve contacted a piston is the only whay he knew something went wrong was the popping and banging at the top end of the track., But I can show you one QuickButton that the guy demanded I set it with a 1/4 turn ('backing out" of clearance. They know their equipment and can explain the details of what and why lots better than I can. I'm sure what Bullet wants is 0.004 at TEMP, talk to Cloyes on Tuesday. (for what thats worth in a little mouse motor) Your giving it 0.004 clearance, then thermal expansion is giving it another 2,4,6? I don't know I set it at zero like the instructions say and have never has issue with the bearing or the cam. Remember this is a torrington bearing, a bit of preload is somethng akin to your wheel bearings, You wouldn't leave one of those loose? Why? No were not talking taper bearing in the QuickButton but like any bearing it works better when there is 1/2 it 1 thousandths of preload. FWIW.Ĭloyes wants you to set it at 0.00000" because as the cover heats, it expands and pulls away from the cam. 004.īottom line is I think these are still really cool chain covers but I would only use them with a dial indicator on the cam sprocket or on the back side of the cam with the soft plug out. I had to repeat the process many times to get the end play to be about what Bullet Cams wanted to see for a hydro roller which was about. The cam was literally tight with no movement.

Then I would try it again and the allen set screw wanted to drive the inner adjuster screw in so I lost a few thousandths and had too little end play. Once the inside screw is set, when you tighten the allen set screw, it actually pulls the inside adjuster screw tight away from the cam and created about. I flat out had a dial indicator on it like you should and was surprised at the results. When I first used it on my roller 454, I just did what the instructions said about the final adjustment but really couldn't check cam end play because the intake was on and the cover has to be on for the final allen screw tightening. I really like how the cam button is a part of the cover but found something different than what the instructions say. I've seen posts about a lot you thinking about trying the Cloyes Quick Button timing chain cover.
